Nothing has really changed since last week’s post, and i remain uncomfortable writing about food and recipes while so many are starving.
Beyond the horrors of the daily news, I have been reading Naomi Klein’s Doppelganger: A Trip Into the Mirror World, which is an exploration of the online underworld of conspiracies and misinformation. The book explores the grey area between people who question the status quo and those who fuel conspiracies, which has left my head spinning. Ever heard of the horseshoe theory? Klein takes us back to the confusion surrounding COVID, which created a vacuum of information that allowed conspiracy theories to flourish.
As if that wasn’t enough, Theo and I went to see Eddington, a new movie that takes place during 2020 COVID, and explores some of the same themes. This movie is hard to watch at times, but it's worth it. Be warned, it’s violent, but once I heard it categorized as neo-Western, it made more sense.
Aside from the doom thinking, I am happy to be in the sun and connecting with people (see how I've found joy below.)
I am loving my new role as a producer for the Ceres Food Film Festival, and we are deep in planning for the October film festival. If you want to stay in the loop about upcoming events, you can sign up for our newsletter here.
I was also re-listening to my Human Design reading with
from 2023, and it brought me so much peace to remember my innate skills and talents. If you don’t know Human Design, it’s worth a deep dive, and I recommend Jenna Zoe as a place to start or booking a reading with Xenia. Thanks for reading what’s swirling through my mind this week, and if you’ve been reading Doppelganger or seen Eddington, let’s chat in the comments.

🦋 FINDING JOY THIS WEEK 🦋
Yesterday, at the beach, I brought a Smoky Red Lentil Dip with pita chips, and someone had a Rihanna towel. Life can be good.
I made this Halloumi, Bean and Tomato recipe in about 20 minutes, and it was delicious
I have a small area at my friend’s house where I am growing things, and yesterday there was a bounty of tomatoes, flowers, and a butterfly.

This jean jacket with a sparkle butterfly will always bring joy.
I am making beans all the time and living for the people posting in the Rancho Gordo Bean Club Facebook group.
We finally ate at Rolos in Brooklyn. I was not obsessed with anything on the menu except the polenta bread, but Theo said the Sungold Pasta was one of the best things he’s eaten in his life.
